TRCK REVIEW: PRSH – Don’t Run

Metro Manila alternative-rock/pop outfit PRSH has been around for quite a while, returning to what I can assume a spiritual, more positive, outlook in their first proper studio track release titled “Don’t Run”, released just a couple weeks ago.

Keeping up with music trends has been non-linear for me lately. I’ve jumped from different periods per google page and PRSH is one of those acts that’s already tried and tested from the books of post-rock and hymns of hallelujah in the mid 2000s.

Sonically, “Don’t Run” has praise and worship written all over its massive swells and uplifting vocal performances. Although, one of the main reasons why PRSH doesn’t manage to keep up with their holy predecessors is its epic somewhat long-drawn-out soundscapes. Repetition wasn’t used as a tool but rather an epic sendoff was utilized in its entirety. Its overwhelmingly maximal production doesn’t cover up the fact that its entire structure solely relies on ropy crescendos and an anti-climactic ending. Lead vocalist, Presh Capistrano, frames the track with minimal cues and an underwhelming harhar performance. This song is truly one of those instrumentally walloping singles but its driving guitars and pounding drums become immediately en passe as it plateaued significantly midway.

All in all, “Don’t Run” has a lot of misses even if its instrumentation is presented in a sparse fashion. Their sonic pastel aesthetic is peeling off the edges. PRSH are definitely in need for a makeover and a new paint job.
