EP REVIEW: SHUICHI – SOMNILOQUY

[Written by Sopas; Isaw; Shingaling; Lugaw] Like magma bubbling under the volcanic pressure-cooker of the bedchamber studio, ideas in the internet age have amalgamated across genre borders. The first generation of digital natives have grown at a staggering pace, and they’re not averse to reworking ideas from their contemporaries as they do their forerunners. Music is changing just as quickly as any other artform, perhaps even more quickly than all others: the ascetic Generation Z is primed to helm. The bedroom now dictates the rules of engagement, and its inhabitants are already breaking past it. somniloquy details shuichi and their … Continue reading EP REVIEW: SHUICHI – SOMNILOQUY

ALBUM REVIEW: PROLET – BAPTISMO

Baptismo is a 14-track experimental hip-hop debut of Baguio-Olongapo based rapper Prolet, who’s also 1 out of the 3 active members in 1kiao. Prolet is one of those rappers where they paint a picture with stanzas written on paper. He modifies those metaphors into something he can weaponize in performances.  Prolet doesn’t set any personal boundaries, he lets the world turn while he and his comrades shout louder in the back. The verses he spit don’t imply a heavy burden nor are they written for granted, but rather it channels dense spoken words in 14 tracks. There’s nothing that can … Continue reading ALBUM REVIEW: PROLET – BAPTISMO

TRCK REVIEW: PRSH – Don’t Run

Metro Manila alternative-rock/pop outfit PRSH has been around for quite a while, returning to what I can assume a spiritual, more positive, outlook in their first proper studio track release titled “Don’t Run”, released just a couple weeks ago.  Keeping up with music trends has been non-linear for me lately. I’ve jumped from different periods per google page and PRSH is one of those acts that’s already tried and tested from the books of post-rock and hymns of hallelujah in the mid 2000s.  Sonically, “Don’t Run” has praise and worship written all over its massive swells and uplifting vocal performances. … Continue reading TRCK REVIEW: PRSH – Don’t Run

TRCK REVIEW: Ashtrays to Gaza – Long Child

The gothic drapes have flown over the beautiful skies of Cebu and the city has seen more than sunbursts of grind bands exploding and noise mongers cracking the windows of their makeshift studios. A mist has arrived and it has tamed the city’s long history of abrasive soundscapes. Enter Ashtrays to Gaza, a solo bedroom project of Jiesus, who’s known to work in a couple of heavy projects such as Folding Bed and Discrustchea. He’s now a lone wolf releasing his debut track titled “Long Child”.  In “Long Child”, the track has spurred many ideas that traces back to DIY … Continue reading TRCK REVIEW: Ashtrays to Gaza – Long Child

TRCK REVIEW: Rob Deniel – Ulap

Genre/s: Blank n’ Chill/Evening Vibe, Peach Pit, Buwan at Mundo, Regurgitated Bedroom Pop Playlist on Spotify, Falsetto-core, Focus Group-core, Post-Wattpad, Tara Ukay Music, Nagsesenti Habang Nangangaraoke si Mommy sa Baba, XXL Honda City Night Drive Vibes, Loose Button-up Shirt Music, COVID-19 Sterilization Starter Pack, Tik Tok Goes the Clock as the Fifteen Minutes of Fame Wind Down, A Restraining Order, Maj7 Chords, Retweeting Archillect Posts (and Quoting “mood”) It’s becoming astounding to see when tracks like Ulap are reduced to the flavor of the month. Not because the track garnered so much attention, but because it lacks any flavor to … Continue reading TRCK REVIEW: Rob Deniel – Ulap
