TRCK REVIEW: Cinema Lumiere – Dreamcatcher

Exploring the history of Philippine Indie Pop is like going down a rabbit hole of mp3 files hiding under old personal blogspot sites. CD ripped compilations are buried down in the aether, lying around for ages until another wave of young generation of fans unearth it. Cinema Lumiere are the prototypes of indie pop’s age-old fundamentals. Consisting of members of previous indie pop projects such as Sodajerk, The Strange Creatures, Carnival Park, Cinema Lumiere is the latest incarnation of the bunch.

Their latest single “Dreamcatcher” purifies pop in its most delicate condition. Catshelf Record’s very own Cinema Lumiere has touched several indie pop’s hallmarks: jangly chord progressions, euphoric production, and catchy hooks. Wherein those vivid descriptions of sunny days peers past the horizon, favoring more on heartbreak and loss while slowly removing rose-colored glasses at dusk. Its bright exterior and sunny smiles don’t cover up the lingering sadness clinging on its twee-scapes. Embracing the big sad tightens up those knots for a stronger day in the next day. Blueboy and The Field Mice influences echo in the dreamy afterthought of this single. It’s really rare to see a band go in the simple yet sharp route with their pop songwriting.
